The OPTASE Moist Heat Eye Mask is a reusable, microwavable eye mask that gives a gentle, moist heat for up to 10 minutes per use. It uses HydroBead technology, which absorbs moisture from the air and releases it as gentle, even heat when warmed.

How to use it
Warm the mask in the microwave for the time shown on the leaflet in the box. This depends on your microwave's power. Before you put it on, check the heat on the inside of your wrist. Close your eyes, rest the mask over them and adjust the strap so it sits comfortably, for up to 10 minutes. The mask is reusable. Keep it in its pouch between uses and follow the care instructions in the box.

People who like to use a warm compress over closed eyelids as part of a daily eye care routine, and who want something tidier and easier to reuse than a hot flannel.

This mask is not a treatment for any eye condition, and it does not replace an eye examination. If your eyes are painful, red or sticky, if symptoms persist or get worse, or if your vision changes, please see an optometrist or your GP. Ask them before using heat on your eyes if you have had recent eye surgery or have an eye infection.

The optase moist heat eye mask uses patented HydroBead™ technology that absorbs moisture from the air and releases natural, constant moist heat when microwaved. Unlike a warm face cloth which loses heat within 3 minutes, this optase moist heat mask maintains therapeutic temperatures for the full 10‑minute treatment. The optase eye mask is reusable, washable, and comes with a protective pouch. A clinical trial proved this optase heat mask was significantly more effective than a warm face cloth at treating MGD signs and symptoms, with the additional benefit of reducing Demodex mites. The mask will not support bacterial or fungal growth and requires no special covers.

1. Place mask flat in an 800W microwave for 25 seconds.
2. Test temperature with fingers before applying to closed eyes.
3. Strap over closed eyes for 10 minutes.

5. Hand wash in cold water with mild detergent and air dry for 24 hours before next use.

Caution: Do not exceed 30 seconds of heating. If reusing within 30 minutes, reduce heating time by 10 seconds.

How do I use this mask?

Remove it from the protective pouch and place it flat in the microwave. Heat in an 800W microwave for approximately 25 seconds. Carefully remove the mask and test the temperature against your fingers before applying, since microwaves and mask conditions can vary. If it feels too hot, let it cool for a minute before retesting. Secure it over closed eyes and wear for up to 10 minutes.

Is there real evidence this kind of treatment works?

Yes. Eyelid warming is described in the ophthalmology literature as the mainstay of treatment for meibomian gland dysfunction, and multiple randomised controlled trials have compared different warm compress methods (hot towels, microwavable masks, and steam-based devices), generally finding meaningful improvements in tear film quality and symptoms with consistent use. For therapeutic effect, eyelid temperature generally needs to reach around 40°C, which is part of why a well-designed, consistent-heat mask can be more reliable than a hot towel that cools quickly and unevenly.

How hot does the mask get, and is it safe?

The mask is designed to deliver a gentle, even heat, but microwave power and timing can vary, so always test the temperature against your fingers before placing it on closed eyes. If it feels uncomfortably hot at any point, remove it and allow it to cool before reapplying.

Can I use this every day?

Many people use warm compress therapy daily as part of an ongoing MGD or dry eye management routine, but we'd recommend following the guidance of your optometrist or ophthalmologist for a routine tailored to your specific symptoms.

Does this replace eye drops or other treatment?

No. Warm compress therapy is typically used alongside other measures such as lubricating eye drops and eyelid hygiene, not as a replacement for them. If you've been prescribed treatment for an eye condition, please continue it and speak with your doctor about how this mask might fit alongside it.

How do I clean and care for the mask?

The cotton cover is washable. Store the mask in its protective pouch when not in use to keep it clean between uses.

Is this suitable for children?

This product is generally intended for adult use. If you're considering it for a child, please check with a paediatric ophthalmologist or optometrist first, given the heat involved.
