Hycosan Shield is a single-ingredient eye drop containing 100% perfluorohexyloctane, designed for the management of evaporative dry eye and meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), conditions where an unstable or deficient lipid layer in the tear film allows moisture to evaporate too quickly from the eye's surface.

Rather than adding water or hydrating agents, Hycosan Shield works by forming a protective layer over the tear film itself, helping to reduce evaporation and stabilise the eye's natural moisture. It's water-free, phosphate-free, and preservative-free, with low surface tension for quick spreading and minimal effect on vision immediately after use.

Not suitable for use with contact lenses, due to a lack of compatibility data for this specific formulation. This differs from some other products in the Hycosan range, so please check the specific product you're using if you wear contact lenses.

The hycosan eye drop range is known for its innovative formulations, and Hycosan Shield provides a completely new approach to dry eye. While hycosan dual and hycosan dual eye drops use hydrating agents like sodium hyaluronate and ectoin to moisturise and protect, the hycosan shield is a water‑free solution that contains 100% perfluorohexyloctane (EyeSol®). It acts as a complete lipid layer replacement, spreading quickly over the tear film to form a protective shield that counteracts premature evaporation. This unique mechanism of action makes it particularly effective for the 90% of dry eye patients who have an evaporative component caused by meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD).

Active Ingredient: Perfluorohexyloctane (EyeSol®) 1.0 ml per 1 ml solution
Other Ingredients: None – this is a pure, single-ingredient product.
Preservatives: None. Water-free, preservative-free, and phosphate-free.

'- Apply 4 times daily by squeezing one drop into the lower eyelid, unless otherwise directed by your eyecare professional.
- Leave 30 minutes between application and the use of other eye drops, applying Hycosan Shield last.
- May be used up to 6 months after opening.
- Not suitable for use with contact lenses or during pregnancy/lactation due to lack of data.

- Temporary blurred vision or mild eye irritation may occur, but these are rare.
