Hycosan Dual combines two active ingredients: sodium hyaluronate (0.05%), which replenishes and lubricates the tear film, and ectoin (2%), a naturally derived compound that helps stabilise the tear film and protect the eye's surface, including from allergens.

This dual-action formula makes Hycosan Dual particularly suited to dry, irritated eyes that also involve an allergic component, such as itching, burning, or redness triggered by pollen or other airborne allergens, alongside general dryness and tiredness.

It's preservative-free, phosphate-free, and suitable for use with contact lenses.

Hycosan dual is a preservative‑free lubricating eye drop that tackles dry eye at its root cause. It combines 0.05% sodium hyaluronate (a natural lubricant found in the eye) with 2% ectoin (a bacteria‑derived extremolyte that protects cells from stress). Together, they form a protective barrier on the conjunctiva, stabilise the lipid layer and relieve both dryness and allergy‑driven inflammation. Suitable for contact lens wearers, the unique COMOD valve system delivers one precise drop per pump without preservatives. One bottle remains sterile for 6 months after opening.

'- Adults and children aged 6+: One drop per eye, up to three times daily as needed
- Prime the bottle by inverting and pumping until the first drop appears
- Tilt head back, gently pull down lower eyelid and instil one drop without touching the eye
- If using other eye drops, wait at least 15 minutes between applications and use hycosan dual eye drops last
- Discard 6 months after opening

How is Hycosan Dual different from standard lubricating eye drops?

Most basic lubricating drops contain a single ingredient, usually sodium hyaluronate, for moisture. Hycosan Dual adds ectoin, which helps stabilise the tear film and has trial support specifically for allergy-related eye symptoms like itching and burning, making it a reasonable choice if your dry eyes also flare up with allergies.

Is there real evidence behind ectoin, or is it just a marketing ingredient?

There's genuine research here. A 2021 systematic review of 16 clinical trials involving 1,795 patients found ectoin eye drops associated with significant symptom improvement in allergic conjunctivitis and other ocular surface irritation, including trials specifically involving children.

Can I use this with contact lenses?

Yes, Hycosan Dual is suitable for use with contact lenses.

How do I use it?

Prime the bottle by inverting it and pumping until the first drop appears. Tilt your head back, gently pull down your lower eyelid, and instil 1 to 2 drops into the affected eye(s), up to 3 times daily, without letting the dropper touch your eye.

Can children use this product?

Yes, it's suitable for adults and children aged 6 and up.

I use other eye drops too. How long should I wait between them?

Please check the Patient Information Leaflet that comes with your specific bottle for the exact guidance, since sources vary on this point (see our note below). As a general rule with any multi-drop routine, space different eye products out rather than applying them back to back, and apply Hycosan Dual last if you're also using an eye ointment.

Does this cure dry eye or eye allergies permanently?

No. This is a management product for the symptoms of dry eye and eye allergies, not a cure. If your symptoms are severe, persistent, or not improving, please speak with your pharmacist, optometrist, or doctor.
